The Standard
Washington Middle School will be recognized as a World Class, Standards Based Middle School, whose students favorably compete in and positively  contribute to their community, State, Nation, and the global society.

The Benchmarks
Washington Middle School will meet the targets set in the STRIVE HI school accountability plan to maintain or improve on its Continuous Improvement status.

Washington Middle School will receive a six year term accreditation following the full Accreditation Committee visit in Spring 2016

Washington Middle School will be in compliance with all State and Federal Mandates and move towards more inclusionary  classroom practices for all students

Washington Middle School will continue t improve on its implementation of the Hawaii State Department of Education's 6+1 Priority Strategies as measured on the States Implementation Continuum. ( Academic Review Team, Common Core State Standards, Comprehensive Student Support System, Educator Effectiveness System, Formative Instruction/Data Teams, Induction and Mentoring, and Science Technology Engineering and Math)

The Performance Indicators
Washington Middle School will have a documented, articulated, and aligned standards based 6-8 curriculum with consistent research based instructional strategies and formative assessment strategies that inform instruction in all content areas.

Washington Middle School will offer a varied and extensive encore and after school programs that meets the exploratory needs of its middle school students and provides the opportunity for students to excel in chosen areas of interest.

Washington Middle School will have comprehensive student support system that addresses the academic, social-emotional, physical, and behavioral needs of all students and promotes educational growth and physical and emotional maturity.

Washington Middle School students will exemplify the General Learner Outcomes while learning to pursue their goals with passion, learning to treat others with compassion, and learning through service to others.

Washington Middle School will implement the components of middle school including: heterogeneously grouped interdisciplinary teams, interdisciplinary units of instruction, common team planning time, student led conferences, an advisory program, and an exploratory program which promotes academic rigor and relevance and interpersonal relationships.

Washington Middle School will seek opportunities for students to participate in District, State, National and International competitions, performances, and exhibits of exemplary student work.

Washington Middle School students will demonstrate their understanding of the Common Core State Standards in Language Arts and Math through formative and summative classroom assessments and through the annual Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA).

Washington Middle School will continue to transition to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and begin examining the College, Career and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Social Studies State Standards.

Washington Middle School will seek opportunities to acquire and enhance technological tools and software to teach students 21st century skills and competencies.

Washington Middle School will continue to implement the Middle School Promotion Policy and be prepared to implement standards based grading and reporting by SY 2017-2018.
